Our current industrial systems of extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal are creating climate change, environmental degradation, water depletion, species loss, waste and toxic pollution. Globalization is creating the spread of this economic and cultural model, persuading other countries to follow suit. Even though we have more than ever before, there is evidence to suggest that we’re more stressed, less happy and work longer hours to pay for it all. At the same time we’re not consuming fairly, millions of people overseas are exposed to toxic chemicals and subjected to ill health, lower working rights and salaries; weaker public access to information and opposition, and consume barely enough to survive.
