Melinda has worked extensively in the fields of design, education and organizational change for 25 years, and has wide experience of visual communication, packaging, social marketing and sustainability. She earned her MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Exeter and is an active action researcher, currently working with multi-partnerships exploring consumerism, materialism and behaviour change. A recent publication includes ‘Materials Awareness’ in The Handbook of Sustainability Literacy (Green Books, 2009).
Stuart founded Chameleon Design in 1986, following an early career working for various advertising agencies in London and Manchester as well as the National Trust, establishing new learning resources, traveling exhibitions and an art gallery. Chameleon’s clients now range from large multi nationals to local community based projects across a wide range of market sectors. Through his design consultancy Stuart aims to deliver creative sustainable solutions with an ever-greater awareness of materials and their impact on our planet.
Aimee has just finished her MSc in International Development, Trade and Industry at Manchester University. She currently aims to travel and work in South America to learn Spanish. The powerful, logical and common sense appeal of transformative learning for sustainable consumption and lifestyle choices is one she fully advocates and supports.
Tom has just finished working for a year in the design industry and is currently completing his final year studying Product Design at Nottingham Trent University. He is a realist who believes in finding viable design solutions for sustainable issues and is currently writing his dissertation on the extent to which product designers can drive sustainability.
In his final year at Leeds University, Jack is studying Economics and Asia Pacific Studies. The course focuses on emerging markets in South East Asia and the sustainability of economic growth, scarce resources, and the effects of migration and pollution in the region. His dissertation on China’s water scarcity issues, will explore water management and student perceptions of the subject. Jack enjoys a challenge; he has recently climbed Mont Blanc and is planning on swimming the English Channel next year.
Katy has recently returned from Northern California, working on the only Certified Organic vineyard in Marin County. The Vineyard and family home are completely off grid and rely solely on wind and solar power. This experience reinforced her love for nature and desire to live life with as small a carbon footprint as possible. Currently in her first year studying Architecture at Brighton University, she is keen to learn how contemporary architectural design can enhance a sustainable way of life.
Currently in his second year, James is studying 3D Design for Sustainability at University College Falmouth. He is an avid surfer with a love for nature. James hopes to utilise his course values and Raw Foundation goals to help create a more sustainable future through design.
Pippa recently graduated from University College Falmouth with an honours degree in Spatial Design. She advocates localised, sensitive design and believes sustainable architecture and spaces are a great catalyst for social and collective change. She is currently embarking on a career in interior architecture and is based in East Dulwich, London.
Last year Tom and a friend successfully rowed across the Atlantic Ocean! Not content with 80 days at sea, he has also recently climbed Mont Blanc in the Alps. He is currently in his final year of a degree in Business and Management at Oxford Brookes University - and is always looking for his next adventure!
Charlie is now in his third year at Exeter University; studying a combination of Geography and Animal Behaviour, with French on the side. For his dissertation Charlie is researching changes in bird migratory patterns as a result of climate change over the last ten years. Last summer he spent four weeks travelling Morocco, which was a fantastic, interesting trip: “beautiful country, amazing food, would strongly recommend it, although perhaps not during Ramadan!”
Currently studying Geography at The University of Manchester, Barney has embarked on a dissertation on solar energy; looking into whether or not it can prove a large scale option for the UK. He hopes to become a renewable energy consultant. Barnaby is hugely interested in this topic and believes that we are a generation that will be directly affected by global warming but that we are also the generation that can do something about it.
Rebecca is currently studying for a degree in Fine Art and Art History at Goldsmiths University, London. She specializes in photography and painting and her work addresses the cracks and faults in society. She is very interested in sustainable development and has worked to promote this at many events and festivals.
